Replacing a car window regulator may seem like a daunting task, but in fact any DIY mechanic can do it. The window regulator is the actual frame when the power window moves up and down. If this does not work properly, then your window will not move. You can use some basic tools and a little time to easily install this window. Below are step-by-step instructions for completing this project.

Step 1 - remove the battery cable

Open the car and make sure that the windows are in the fully up position. After completing this operation, you can turn the key to the closed position. Since you are dealing with electrical work, please disconnect the battery to avoid electric shock or accidentally operate the motor and squeeze some fingers.

Step 2 - remove the door panel

Starting from the decorative panel on the door, loosen the screws that secure the various components. Pry open windows and lock switches and door handle bezels. They may need to be unscrewed or simply ejected from the housing. When removing these components, disconnect them. Remove all screws fixed on the door panel. Some of them may be hidden around the door. Please check carefully before attempting to pry open the door panel. Starting from a corner, pry the plastic rivets out of the housing to eject the door panel.

Step 3 - Disconnect the window seat belt

Peel off the waterproof device of the inner door and disconnect the wire harness from the window. Starting with the screw that secures the glass to the regulator, loosen the screw that secures the window regulator. Then remove the screw that secures the adjuster to the door.

Step 4 - remove window regulator

The window regulator is a motor mounted on the arm. The motor rotates, the arm moves, and the end of the arm pushes the bottom of the window, and then rises.

Remove the window regulator from the door. Fold the sides of the adjuster inward, and then remove it from the door. Unscrew the bolt and disconnect the power motor from the regulator. Swing the motor until the wiring becomes loose. Make sure that the cable does not fall off the spool during this process.

Step 5 - replace the window regulator

Compare the new regulator with the old regulator and make sure you have purchased the correct part. Pay attention to the rivet holes. It must be properly aligned with the door.

Install the new regulator in the door and set it in place. Connecting the motor to the regulator is the reverse of disconnecting it. Fix the regulator on the door with bolts and fix the glass on the top of the regulator. Reseal the water guide and replace the door panel.

Step 6 - secure the door panel

After installing the window regulator in the door panel, you can fix the door panel back to its original position. Start from one side of the panel, and then press the pop-up rivet back into place. Replace all the screws you removed, and connect the lights, switches, and locks at the same time. Connect the battery cable and test your new window regulator.
